London’s pre-eminence in international food definitely extends to the most important meal of the day. Try these from Japan, Peru, India and beyond

Peru: Andina

Now this HAS to be tried for breakfast. It’s one of those where you look at the menu and say “I want one of each”. Try a chicharron sandwich, which is a soft bun of confit pork belly with camote ketchup; or sweet potato pancakes with honey, physallis and coconut whipped cream; or quinoa, amaranth, pumpkin seeds, oats, coconut, maca fruit and fruits; or Peruvian corn soufflé. I mean, you could just kiss the chef. (No …?)

DishoomIndian: Dishoom

Everyone, and I mean, everyone who has breakfast at Dishoom, tells everyone, and I mean, everyone about it. Such is their outstanding quality. And you can understand it: what with the Kejriwal – fried eggs on chilli cheese toast. Or a Bombay omelette, described as a crazy paving omelette of chopped tomato, onion coriander and green chilli. Or spicy chicken keema with chicken liver, two eggs and sali crisps. Believe me, the list goes on. You HAVE to try.

Spanish: Camino

Check out Camino, cheeky buggers, offering a ‘full Spanish’: eggs, morcilla (blood sausage), bacon, chorizo, piquillo peppers and mollete toast. Sounds good, but actually the omelette/scrambled option with Serrano ham, arzua cheese and peppers represents a good shout for under a fiver. Lurking lower down, though, the dangerously seductive chocolate con churros … definitely one for a diet cheat day!

Koya BarJapan: Koya Bar

This fine and dandy Japanese eatery in Soho’s Frith Street is popular with Japanese people but they offer an English breakfast – just with a little twist: fried egg, bacon, shiitake porridge and miso. Sounds good on a cold day, but they also do breakfast udon and, most authentically, grilled fish, rice, miso soup and pickles. Sounds even better.

USA (South): The Breakfast Club, Angel

You’ve got to love a brekkie specialist and I’m always impressed by people who eat big in the morning! TBC doesn’t disappoint with pancakes, bacon and maple syrup abounding: try Huevos rancheros: fried eggs, tortilla, refried beans, chorizo, salsa, cheddar, sour cream and guacamole. Arriba!
